The healing power of art and community!
In November 2015, Raising Artists gathered together an astounding community and hosted a workshop fundraiser in honor of Selena, the daughter of one of our closest friends. Selena, an amazing four-year-old, was diagnosed with cancer—a rare tumor called anaplastic Wilm’s tumor. All proceeds from the fundraiser were donated to Selena and her family.
The buzz in the room on this special morning was moving, magical, and fun. We were pleased to see David Johnston, the Governor General of Canada, who stopped by to show his support for Selena, her family, and the Raising Artists community.
We’d like to say thank you to everyone who participated!

“It’s an amazing feeling to know that in your darkest hour a community as bright and as creative as Raising Artist was their for my daughter and my family. Putting together “Painting wth Selena”to raise funds and awareness for our cause, childhood cancer. It was the most amazing day with hearts worn on sleeves showing love and support to us when we needed it most. Art has the ability to sometimes communicate emotion too hard to express. Children painting rainbows, happy faces and splatters all in the name of Selena is beauty on a level I have never seen. We are forever grateful and will cherish that day forever.”
