I first met Benny Bing when I became a Toronto Artscape Inc. Board member in 2021. Benny also serves on the Board, and we connected over our passion for artistic expression.

Benny is an incredibly talented self-taught painter. When you see Benny’s work, you come to appreciate the beauty and importance his expression encompasses. He paints with the colors of his soul and the passion for his craft is evident in his work. Benny takes “pride in shaping the way we view ethnicity and identity, while emphasizing a positive representation of black women in his work”.

Benny’s work is widely regarded, with CBC naming Benny an “influential Black Canadian who is expanding and redefining black representation”. When I spoke with Benny in his studio, it was clear to me he has made a career doing what he loves.

We have the opportunity to chat with Benny LIVE on our Instagram on Friday, February 4, 2022 @ 1:00 pm. We’re excited to dive into the importance of creativity, why representation matters in the arts, and Benny’s work.
