I often get asked what my favourite places to buy art supplies are? Or where did I pick up this brush? Truth be told, we have amazing suppliers that we have cultivated wonderful relationships with, only they do not sell to the public, however, that doesn’t mean that I do not have a few favourite art shops in the city.

So here you go, my top 5 favourite Art Shops in Toronto, and who to ask for.

Gwartzman’s Art Supplies – Chinatown

This is a family owned business, it’s a gem and the team goes above and beyond in helping you. They always have canvas in stock, and it’s a great quality Canadian cotton.
– Ask for Jacquline, she’s incredible.

DeSerres – Uptown
This is a family owned business, it’s a gem and the team goes above and beyond in helping you. They always have canvas in stock, and it’s a great quality Canadian cotton.
– Ask for Jacquline, she’s incredible.

Above Ground Art Supplies – Downtown
When I was taking courses at the AGO, I spent a lot of time in this particular store picking up art supplies, browsing the aisles and dreaming up new projects. You are also surrounded by art students, so you feel a sense of comfort and belonging. Lastly, I love that the canvases are always packed well with lots of corner padding.
– Ask for Alan, he’s great!

Daniel’s Art Supplies – Chinatown
The service is always top quality, the prices are great and the quality of brushes that I have purchased for my own personal painting are wonderful!
– Ask for Daniel, obviously – he’s fantastic!

Curry’s Artists’ Materials – Queen West
This location is always stocked up with all the materials you are looking for. The staff is also knowledgeable and extremely patient with you.
– Ask for Adam, he’s the best!

I hope you enjoyed my list – happy shopping!

Until then,

Alessandra
